Woodlands pastor since '79 retires

Much has changed since Monsignor Charles Domec became Saints Simon and Jude Catholic Parish's founding pastor 33 years ago, but the Woodlands resident's love for people and his sense of humor have plainly remained intact. The Woodlands was a burgeoning master-planned community when Domec was charged with the mission to launch the first Roman Catholic church when the area was still a bedroom community. On Aug. 8, 1979, then-Bishop John Morkovsky of the Galveston-Houston Diocese signed a formal decree to establish the parish of Sts. Parishioners expressed a desire that the church's sanctuary be the first priority for the building program. Through the years, the number of families attending Saints Simon and Jude Catholic Parish mirrored the Woodlands' growing population. A reception line of well over 1,000 people snaked throughout the Woodlands Conference Center to wish Domec a happy retirement, among them Woodlands resident Sylvia Cameron, a charter member of Saints Simon and Jude.
